Wedding Seasons

What time of year would you like to get married?

Do you dream of a spring-fresh ceremony filled with flowers and birdsong, or a winter wedding of frosted lawns and sparkling trees? A golden autumn wedding in the Forest of Dean perhaps, or summer celebrations by the Somerset coast?

Spring Weddings

Spring is such a charming time for a wedding and country houses look so pretty at this time of year.

In springtime, we embrace the outdoors again (but always with a wet-weather plan!), enjoying drinks and canapés on terraces and photos among new shoots.

We make sure that all our gardens and grounds are planted with flowers that bloom throughout the spring, filling the estates with scent and colour, and providing cut flowers for indoor displays.

April sunshine filters through elegant sash windows into beautifully styled halls and chambers, and spaces like St Audries’ orangery are particularly pretty in the spring.

Summer Weddings

Summer is traditionally the wedding season, and when you walk among the sweet-scented formal gardens or across sun-warmed parkland, it’s easy to see why.

The summer sunshine warms the gardens of our country houses, opening up wonderful possibilities for al fresco ceremonies and celebrations. From exchanging vows under the trees to playing croquet on the lawns, we love the outdoor season.

Ceremonies, celebrations and champagne receptions spill out into lawns and terraces, where features such as the bandstand at Holmewood Hall create refined romantic settings.

Warm days and evenings offer the opportunity for extra details, such as croquet, firework displays and al fresco music.

Escape the heat of summertime London for the cool and fresh surroundings of our rural Essex wedding venues.

Autumn Weddings

Autumn is one of the loveliest times of year in the British countryside, especially in the gently wooded estates of our wedding venues.

The autumn aesthetic, of warm-coloured foliage, woodland animals and mellow tones, perfectly pairs with our historic estates. Indoors, fires are lit for the first time, and we make the most of the autumn harvest with warming and hearty menus.

Red-gold trees and subtly muted sunshine create a beautiful backdrop for your wedding. We especially love Clearwell Castle at this time of year, with its sylvan setting in the Forest of Dean.

Our in-house Chefs make the most of the English harvest for autumn wedding receptions, as we enjoy the best from local food producers.

Winter Weddings

There’s something particularly special about an English country house in the winter. Open fires and cosy lamps light up intimate rooms, while convivial company and fine food and drink warm the halls.

Decorating a country house for a winter wedding is pure pleasure. Whether you want a glittering winter wonderland or a sumptuous space decked in rich fabrics and colours, the finished effect is always breathtaking.

Whether you love rich and opulent colours or shimmering sparkles, winter decor always feels celebratory. Outside, we dress the driveway and gardens with twinkling lights, and sometimes (whisper it) frost and snow bring their own natural magic to your wedding day.

festive weddings

In December, we embellish our country houses for the festive season.

We deck the halls with festive decorations that complement your wedding style, creating a beautiful effect that you’ll remember forever.

A Christmas wedding is a wonderful way to bring everyone together (Bourton Hall in Warwickshire is marvellously central…), and our historic country houses make the perfect settings.

Christmas trees, swags and, yes, boughs of holly deck the halls for an extra-magical feel.
