Why do couples choose to get married in a castle wedding venue?

Here are just some of the features that these beautiful buildings share, making them ideal venues for your romantic wedding day.

Castle Wedding Venues from Country House Weddings

At Country House Weddings, we were delighted to acquire the beautiful Clearwell Castle in 1998.

This almost impossibly romantic castle is matched by its lovely setting, the ancient Forest of Dean in Gloucestershire.

While not actually castles, the architectural details in Leez Priory in Essex and St Audries Park in Somerset are distinctively castle-like, with towers, dramatic gateways and crenellations.

These splendid manor houses are excellent choices if you’re looking for a historic wedding venue in the South of England.

Clearwell Castle, Gloucestershire

Clearwell Castle is an important building in stately home architectural history, being the earliest Georgian Gothic castle in England. The castle dates back to 1727, replacing an earlier building. You can still see traces of the earlier Clearwell today, included in the magnificent Ballroom.

With its 75-foot aisle, this lovely space feels like a setting that’s tailor-made for marriage ceremonies. The Ballroom can also be transformed into an elegant dining room for your wedding breakfast. In the evening, the recently refurbished Cellar Bar hosts memorable wedding parties.

If you prefer an outdoor wedding, make the most of Clearwell’s beautiful grounds with a service in the Victorian Bandstand. Surrounded by woodlands and with its own lake, the castle is just as perfect outside as it is inside.
