Wedding trends – Vegan menus set to be big in 2020

Over the past few years, the number of people choosing to follow a vegan diet in the UK has skyrocketed. According to figures published in the Guardian, vegan food orders increased by a staggering 388% between 2016 and 2018, as thousands more people decided to shun meat and opt for plant-based food instead.

As a result of the increased popularity of vegan food, more couples are choosing plant-based menus for their wedding feasts. If you and your partner are vegan, or if you just want to ensure you cater for all your friends and family, a vegan menu could be the perfect choice for your wedding. Here are a few of our favourite plant-based ideas to get you started.

Why vegan?

As @peta says, ”Vegan catering is a great way to spare animals and introduce your loved ones to food that can keep them healthier.”

Many people wouldn’t ordinarily choose a vegan dish from a menu, so your wedding is a fantastic opportunity to show them just how good meat-free meals can be. If you’re vegan yourself, or if your partner follows a plant-based diet, having a vegan wedding breakfast will ensure you’re able to enjoy everything on the menu.

Make a mezze

A lot of mouth-watering Middle Eastern and Mediterranean dishes are vegan. Everything from falafel, hummus, and olives to baba ganoush, dolmades and tabbouleh are already vegan, and many other dishes can be adapted to be meat and dairy free.

Putting together a Mediterranean or Middle Eastern mezze feast is therefore a fantastic way to cater to vegan guests and ensure your wedding breakfast looks irresistible.

Go East

Not only is Asian food often vegan by nature, it’s also delicious. This makes Thai, Indian, Vietnamese, Japanese, and Malaysian dishes ideal for your wedding menu.

Think Thai green curry, Vietnamese pho or Japanese sushi. An Indian banquet can also be a great choice for a meat-free menu. Talk to your chosen caterer to find out what they can offer.

Vegan food can still be indulgent

A lot of people associate vegan food with healthy living. And while it’s true that plant-based meals can be low in fat, salt and other unhealthy elements, there’s no reason vegan food can’t be luxurious too.

If you want to celebrate your wedding in style, a sumptuous vegan menu might be the perfect choice. Vegan cheese, nuts, olive oil, coconut milk, and plenty of seasoning can all add flavour, depth and richness to a vegan menu. Adding a little indulgence to the feast will ensure you and your guests have a meal you can really get your teeth stuck into.

Ensuring your wedding breakfast is accessible for all your guests, and giving your friends and family a meal that’s just a little bit different, a vegan menu could be the perfect way to go.
