The great wedding bake off

The wedding cake is an opportunity to create a beautiful and eye-catching display. However, it can be a bit of a hassle choosing just which cake design to settle on. In this post, we give you a rundown of some of the best cake styles and designs. From minimal yet fantastic winter cakes to eclectic summer cakes and our own in-house creations, there’s so much to be inspired by.

1. In-house pavlova

Not all wedding cakes have to be sponge and jam related. Our special in-house pavlova is an example of trying something a little different. CHW’s highly-trained chefs will create wonders and make your wedding day centrepiece something to remember.

2. The minimal cake

Minimalism is always a winner, so if you’re not too keen on having cake worthy of Marie Antoinette, then a traditional three tiered cake is probably the way to go. These work especially well for a winter wedding. Be inspired by frosty days and snow covered surroundings, contrasting the brilliant white with seasonal berries.

3. In-house cheese cake

Cheese cake

Conjuring up memories of childhood treats and visions of all-American movies, our in-house cheese cakes offer a tasty treat for brides and grooms looking for a different angle when it comes to their wedding cake. Some people might imagine a cheesecake as flat and unimpressive, but there’s a hundred ways our chefs can make this classic look fabulous.

4. Fantastic floral cake

Spring and summer is the time of fantastic florals, from budding roses to vibrant daffodils. It’s no surprise that these seasons are saturated with weddings from start to finish. When it comes to your cake, embrace the season with a cake festooned in bright and evocative flowers. Whether you choose a block colour like mixing sunflowers and daffodils, or a stunning medley, a burst of colourful flowers will make your spring/summer wedding pop.

5. In-house croquenbouche

If you’re looking for a cake with a distinct and stylish European flavour, then try our gorgeous in-house croquembouche. A symphony of delightful flavours and brilliant shapes, this cake is for those couples looking to really go that extra mile and dazzle their guests. This French creation has an interesting history, as Cilantro Cooks explains:

“The history of this tower of confection begins in France, in medieval times. It was brought to popularity by a famous French chef named Carame. He studied architecture and felt that pastry was the highest form of such. Croquembouche were often displayed with pastry puffs of all different shapes including something like an eclair, but the tower of circular puffs prevailed. The forgiving dough lends itself to creative shapes. These days you will most likely also find them constructed out of donut holes.”

We hope you like our cake inspirations. We would be delighted to hear about your wedding cakes, especially if you’ve had a wedding at one of our prestigious venues.
