There are lots of ways to bring in a twist of vintage glamour to your bridal look; from 1940’s screen-queen curls to a beautiful vintage wedding dress. Whether you love the flapper-girl style of the 1920s or you prefer your vintage with a modern twist, there are many ways to achieve a glamorous vintage bridal look for your wedding.

Old school beauty queen

A great way to bring in a touch of vintage glamour to your bridal look, is to style yourself with some striking makeup, reminiscent of the heroines of Hollywood’s golden era. The 1940s and the 1950s saw the rise of some of the most glamorous stars of the big screen, such as Marilyn Monroe and Elizabeth Taylor.

To emulate the gorgeous glamour of the period, we recommend choosing a bold lip colour – such as a vivid red or a beautiful dark berry shade. Highlight your eyes with a smoky or dark liner and some bold false lashes. To up the glamour, you could go for a sweeping up-do or some cascading, high-volume curls. For the finishing touch, why not go for a classic red nail polish?

Vintage accessories

Another brilliant way to bring some vintage charm into your bridal style is by experimenting with statement vintage accessories. Styling your hair with vintage pieces is a great way to add some vintage glamour to your look. From jewelled combs to demure hair nets; there are myriad vintage pieces that you can play around with for your wedding day.

Jewellery pieces of diamond or crystal is another way to incorporate vintage glamour into your look. Diamond earrings, statement choker necklaces or cute bracelets all add some lovely finishing touches.

Explore the different eras

Vintage is a broad term, and there are many stunning fashion looks of the past decades that you can draw upon for your own bridal look. The 1920s look of The Great Gatsby is very popular and it’s easy to see why, as the high-glamour look of the flapper girl is hard to resist – embellished flapper dresses, statement hairpieces, and bold makeup characterize this look.

The 1940s and 1950s really encapsulate what we usually refer to as vintage glamour, as these years were the era of beautiful tea length dresses with bold skirts. The sweetheart neckline is one of the most endearing elements of these decades.

As Siu, @LibertyinLove, remarks: “The styles and fashions of the 1940s  and 1950s  also appear to have really captured our hearts of late. And after all, who can deny the ‘twirl’ appeal of the 50’s style, just-below-the-knee length, full circle skirted wedding dresses?”.

Combine old Hollywood glamour with modern glamour

A fun way to keep your bridal look classically glamorous without looking dated, is to combine vintage style elements with modern twists. For example, you may like to add a vintage fur wrap or hair piece to your wedding day wardrobe, but balance out these classic pieces with a more modern style of wedding dress. You can also combine vintage accessories with modern accessories; a bold pair of metallic wedges or sparkling stilettos can add a touch of modern appeal to your bridal style.

Crafting your unique bridal style

There are many ways to draw on the glamour of the past decades in order to create a really unique and stunning bridal look for your own wedding day.
