Perfecting the English garden theme for your summer wedding

The English garden theme for your summer wedding.

If there’s one style that is synonymous with British culture it has to be the English garden theme. It’s a picturesque style that has been around for centuries – you can read more about the origins of the English garden here – with its quaint, beautiful yet naturally unkempt look as charming and characterful as it’s ever been.

The English garden style is made for summer, but where do you even begin when perfecting the iconic and utterly elegant English garden look? Here we share our top tips for doing just that!

Choose a great British setting

Selecting a venue that you adore is the first wedding planning task on most couples’ to-do lists. With natural beauty and elegance central to the English garden style, our country wedding venues offer the perfect settings to bring your vision to life. From castles to manor houses, our traditional venue options deliver the most stunning surroundings to say “I do” both inside and out.

Whatever Country House Weddings venue you fall in love with, you’ll want to take advantage of our brilliant wedding packages. You can find out more about our Classical (with a free upgrade for 2024), Intimate, Twilight and brand-new Luxe wedding packages by visiting your chosen venue’s dedicated website.

Bring the outdoors in

The English garden style is a celebration of blooms. Bellflowers, cottage pinks, roses, delphiniums, geraniums, hollyhocks, anemones, peonies and lavender are just some of the varieties that are commonplace in the average cottage garden. Make sure your summer wedding reflects this romantic and welcoming landscape, whether that’s with your bouquets, buttonholes, stationery, signage, centrepieces or crockery.

Go beyond the florals

It’s not just beautiful florals that will make your summer wedding quintessentially English. The typical English garden is a little bit messy, unkempt and ever so slightly overgrown to ensure a relaxed and intimate vibe that will work equally well on your wedding day. Use foliage, such as leaves, grasses, branches and trees, to your advantage to beautify your displays further.

Natural arches are great ways to incorporate greenery into your ceremony or reception space as Brides details:

“Sometimes the best way to make the most of your setting is to let it show its true colours, like at this intimate ceremony. It’s surrounded by woods and cedars, so a simple arch wrapped in wild greenery adds to the bucolic ambience. Finish it with a flowy drape for more ethereal romance.”

As well as styling your venue with seasonal florals and greenery, vintage touches such as bunting, garlands and lanterns are super cute additions that wouldn’t be out of place in the average English garden.

Let the games begin

Give your entertainment the garden party touch too by getting out those lawn games. They’re great for guests of all ages, not to mention free for couples marrying at a Country House Weddings venue this summer.

Thanks to our Sunshine upgrade, you can enjoy our Giant Garden Games, Ice Cream Tricycle and Pimm’s or Prosecco Station for free when marrying with us during June, July, August or September 2024.

We also have two other packages available, the Autumnal upgrade available with late availability weddings booked in October or November 2024, and the Sparkle upgrade, available with remaining November or December 2024 dates.
