As @ConfettiWedding says, “Probably the most important thing when deciding on your theme is to choose one that means something to you and your other half.” If that the one thing that’s important to you both is something fun like Dr Who, all the better. Thanks to the enduring popularity of Dr Who, the Time Lord is a common feature of many weddings throughout the world. If you’re thinking of taking a trip in the Tardis on your own big day, here are our tips for planning the perfect Dr Who themed wedding.
Start with the invitations
Creating themed invitations is a fantastic way to set the scene for your wedding day and get guests excited about the event. An obvious choice is to shape the invites like the Tardis and have guests open the doors of the iconic phone box to reveal the details inside. Alternatively, you could borrow imagery from one of Dr Who’s greatest enemies and create Dalek themed invitations.
If you’re a Dr Who superfan, walking down the aisle to the famous theme tune would probably be a dream come true. Turn the volume up and make your dramatic entrance just as the music gets into full swing.
A subtle way to have Dr Who running through your entire wedding day is to opt for a bright blue colour theme. Reflecting the blue of the Tardis, this theme can be reflected in your décor, the detail in your outfits and your bridesmaids dresses. You could even serve up blue cocktails and blue nibbles to your guests after the ceremony.
Say ‘I do’ in the Tardis
Place a Tardis at the end of the aisle and the photos from the wedding ceremony will have a fantastic backdrop. If you can find a Tardis for hire – or if you have some creative friends who are handy with a paintbrush and a saw – you can even get married inside a Tardis, just make sure it doesn’t disappear during the ceremony.
With all themed weddings, the cake offers a fantastic opportunity to have some fun and make your guests smile. Ask your chosen bakery to create a cake in the shape of a Tardis, a Dalek or any of your other favourite Dr Who characters. Alternatively, for a more subtle Dr Who aesthetic, simply place a miniature Tardis on top of your more traditional wedding bake.
